Howdy, everyone! I am thrilled that you're considering the Chicago English Corner as the place where you can become your better self.
I live in Chicago with my husband and two adopted dogs: Taco and Queso. Before settling in the City by the Lake, I have been fortunate to have lived, traveled to, and worked in a lot of places: Australia, Canada, the UK, France, México, and Spain.
In addition to English, I am also fluent in Spanish. Gané una beca para estudiar en España cuando era universitario. Luego, la empresa con la que trabajaba me mandó a México por casi un año. Desde entonces, mi corazón ha sido latiendo en dos idiomas. :)
I love to answer questions from students about the English language and American culture. Let me know what is on your mind by clicking the "Contact Donald" button down below! I'll respond to you within 48 hours.
I am both an English teacher and an IT professional. Very, very few people have this combination of professional experience!
Way back in 1997, my Information Technology career began as a Customer Service agent for Hewlett-Packard. From there, I was a UNIX administrator for Visteon, a mail server administrator for Whirlpool, and a Senior IT Analyst for Johnson Controls. My final IT position was with Loyola University Chicago, where my role was to train the student employees working at the university's Help Desk.
My teaching career began in 2007 as a graduate student pursuing a Master's Degree. The English Department at Western Michigan University assigned me to teach two sections of English 101. I fell in love with the classroom. In addition to teaching at my alma mater, I would teach English language and literature at Grand Valley State University and Grand Rapids Community College.
I worked both of those careers until 2021, when I launched my own business dedicated to helping people all over the world improve their English language skills.
Education: I have taught students in a wide variety of settings: university classrooms, corporate training rooms, and in any space that community charities could provide. My goal has always been to understand where my students are and then help them grow into where they want to be.
